Emails randomly stopped showing in the authors views

When adding emails for manual authors, sometimes they just don't get reflected in the contributionsMap and never show on the UI even after clicking on "edit" and adding the email.

This happens in both the views for co-authors, in the edit view and the prepub flow 3rd step.

Not sure how to reprod the bug, it was working fine one moment and not working the next.

Automerge is working, I am able to edit the title, abstract, and upload/delete files and even add new authors. Only their emails do not save.
