Stuff should probably be moved under src, the APIs should go under api. Not sure where the home of the sources in Python should be.

As to the placement of sources, the question that I ask myself is: will this mainly be a Python package that people will pip install? If yes, then the source directory should have the same name as the package. Otherwise src/.

I think we want to do the pip thing. For the moment I'll leave everything as-is.

OK we can take this later. I also need to read a bit on the code to understand better.
