I wrote this little application to check plagiarism in assignments which turns out to be embarrassingly quite high. It has some capabilities to check similarities in pdf files also.

You can think of it as a poor man's (read teaching assistant) MOSS. It is perhaps not as good or fast as MOSS but I have had great success with it as a teaching assistant.
