We created a DuckDB extension (erpl.io, https://github.com/DataZooDE/erpl) to connect to SAP ERP via standard RFC, ODP, and BICS interfaces.
Current Status
I plan to write it
I've written it and run it for fun
I run it on my local laptop
I run it in production
I tried following destinations with it: [e.g. duckdb, bigquery]
What source does/will do
Our DuckDB extension aims to lower the barrier to entry and increase efficiency for Business Analysts, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists in the SAP ecosystem without or with minimal need for SAP consultants/ IT support, which is often a bottleneck in analytic projects. An analytical use case is, e.g. using the BICS interface for extracting financial data (revenues, order backlog, order intake, ...) on a monthly or daily basis considering company structure (group, country company, ...) basis for performing a forecast or generating scenarios. More are desirable, such as demand forecasting, integrating SAP BW into Cloud platforms and more.
Test account/test data
I'd like dltHub to create a test account before we start
I have a test account and can share my test data or a test account with dltHub after we merge the source
Additional context
According to the SAP licence, each connection to SAP needs its licence. Tests are currently performed using a Docker developer instance https://hub.docker.com/r/sapse/abap-platform-trial/ that requires around 100GB of a local or cloud hard drive.
