Use better abstraction for handling of special name forms for variables

We use this schema for both linear SSA form and preassigning registers in the selector, but the abstractions/interfaces we're using expose too much of what's happening behind the scenes (i.e. string manipulation and so on). The user of the library shouldn't know about any of this.
