latest theia is not working #12925

I've been following https://github.com/eclipse-theia/theia/blob/master/doc/Developing.md#prerequisites. See the commands below.

When I try to launch a terminal, it just shows a static cursor and doesn't seem to load anything.

After I try to load a terminal, theia subsequently hangs whenever I try to visit it in a new tab. After about a ~minute, I can visit it again.
After restarting theia, the page can take a long time to load, and the file explorer will be continuously loading:

@andrewzah thank you for the discussion, I haven't experienced the issue you reported and I don't know another user which also experienced something similar. Would you happen to have additional details as to when the behavior is broken for you?

Which operating system are you using? (I assume Red Hat Linux)
Does it happen for all workspaces, does it happen without a workspace?
Can you share any frontend logs you might see? (using the browser's devtools)

@vince-fugnitto this is for Rocky Linux 8.8. It happens for all workspaces, I'm not sure how to test a file without a workspace.

I see that you're deploying Theia from some IP (http://172.17.0.2:3000). Can you try to run it on localhost? Given that the socket.io connection seems to be crashing shortly after/during app load, it might hint towards a network issue.

Ah, this is inside a docker container. When I run theia locally (on arch, node v20.5.1), it appears to work correctly. However I need to be able to run theia inside of docker.

Ok, good to know it works locally. So, yeah that definitely sounds like some sort of networking issue. No idea what to recommend though to resolve it.

Hi @msujew ,

We are experiencing same exact issue, however in our case, terminal is working inside docker container, but not locally in development environment. Can you please suggest what could be the reason for same.

We recently had a lot of trouble related to node.js on Windows related to spawning terminal processes and pushed a few fixes for that. Can you try reproducing these issues on the latest version of Theia?
