Hi EcoDatascience!

We've primarily been using the google group for communications but I'm not sure if everyone on this github repo is also on the google group. If not, click here to join the google group. I just sent out the following email with some information as well as an end of year survey (if you already received it via the google group please ignore):

Since the academic year is over, I am going to put EcoDataScience on pause for the summer. If there are folks who are interested in leading any sessions over the summer we can still work with the Collaboratory and put something together, but I will not be seeking out people to lead sessions as I usually do. That being said, there are other ways to engage with local data science communities this summer, specifically the RLadies group and the Santa Barbara R Users Group. This Thursday, June 21, the R Users Group is hosting a hackathon at Workzones downtown. The group is collaborating with Santa Barbara Channelkeeper to use their Stream Team dataset for analysis and exploration. Make sure to sign up if you're interested in participating.

Now that we're on summer break, I would greatly appreciate your participation in a short end of year survey. This group started a few years ago with just a couple of friends/scientists looking to share and learn about data science for environmental research. The group has grown significantly, we now have 143 members (!) on the google group and had 12 sessions this past year. The UCSB Library Collaboratory has been a phenomenal partner in providing a space for us to meet on campus as well as lunch for all attendees. While I have become the defacto coordinator of EcoDataScience, I want to make sure this group maintains a format and feeling that the entire community can get behind and a place where everyone feels welcome. Your suggestions, comments and ideas are all welcome.

Please fill out this anonymous survey and if you have anything else you want to share with me feel free to send me an email ([email protected]).
