A possibly useful shortcut for modifying a drawing you just made (e.g. you forgot to turn off arrow mode):
What if switching to Select mode after drawing something started with the last drawn object in your mode?
I think Illustrator does something similar.
A potential annoyance is if you want to drag a rectangle instead of that selection, and you trigger an object drag instead of a rectangular select. (You'd have to deselect first.)
