A Satoshi is the smallest denomination of Bitcoin. 1 Satoshi = 0.00000001 Bitcoin

Pros:

Integers are reliable to compare
Integers are easier to store
Integers work nicely with the Silverstripe framework

Cons:

Decent amount of work
Possibly need to revert changes committed to Swipestripe.
