…ll be nice to at least capture a log of this somewhere for debugging purposes. Still haven't tested yet that this actually works but will close the issue if it does.

Currently the shortcut that launches the notebook pops up a terminal window for a few seconds and shows some startup output. Since this could be confusing to novice users it's probably best to hide that.
Better still--because the startup can take a few seconds (especially of the VM isn't already running) it would be nice to immediately open a web browser with a 'loading' page that would then redirect to the Notebook once the container is ready.
