Putting a comment space up for any lessons learned from the current assembly process to note with future work.

Price Reduction: DB-15s have a much better scaling price even though we don't need the pins (more common part realized after order), at the cost of a board and enclosure modification. Connectors are the most expensive part currently.

  • Would consider subbing out assembled boards for larger run. I think the crossover point, now that the working version is known, would only be 20 sets or less.
  • Personally feel the tile blocks look great and would make enclosures both cheaper and faster to produce, as well as limit packing and distribution costs.

Agree that subbing out board population/build out is economical given poc
validation.

Manufacturing issues:

  • Male DB-9s have a 1mm vertical difference on the distance between the board mating surface and connector edge from the female. We adjusted ourselves during our build, but it couldn't be automated.
  • One connector support detached during testing of the new boards, which may be a sign that we need to take additional design steps for mechanical strength. Adjustments have been made on this set.
  • Offset on current enclosure for LED holes is adjusted towards the wrong side. LED holes need to be shifted so that parts can be dropped in and soldered. See Board population #97.
