BLE scan seems incomplete / not returning any names

I'm trying to implement a BLE scan to find a specific device with a ESP32-S3 using this crate.

The steps I'm taking using HCI-commands (very close to this code -- thank to @alexiionescu for pointing me there):

• reset
• set event mask (all 0xff to not miss anything for now)
• le set event mask (all 0xff to not miss anything here)
• le set scan params (Scan type: active, no filter, interval: 50ms, window: 30ms)
• le set scan enable (filter duplicates)

Then I'm looping over match self.ble.get_next(&mut buffer) and parse the buffer whenever I get a len > 0.
While logging the parsed packages I get a lot of Advertisenemts containing Incomplete List of 16-bit Service Class UUID and Complete List of 128-bit Service Class UUIDs (although the data part of the latter is only 56 bit long…).
I get no packages containing flags or any sort of names.
I do get scan response messages but they don't contain names or flags either.

A Mac running Bluetility gets quite a few peripherals sending names, including the device I'm trying to find.
The peripheral of interest in my case is a pinecil. It's being found by other BLE central devices and according to the source it advertises a 128 bit UUID and sends a scan response containing a flag and a name:

Comparing the raw HCI packets (their length is plausible) to what I'm parsing I don't know what I'm doing wrong on that part (yet).

Before going there: Is there anything in the initiation that I might be missing (specific to this crate or the ESP32-S3) or that is not yet implemented?

Probably the code you are using is just getting the advertisement data but doesn't request/receive extended scan response data. ( See BLUETOOTH CORE SPECIFICATION Version 5.3). You can try to have e.g. the ble example running on another ESP32 and see if you get more in the basic advertising data

I completely missed to notice this important distinction and that with extended scan, scan was considered legacy.

Now using extended scan and everything works as expected.
