For the esp-idf-* crates... while they do already have a very good coverage of the underlying ESP IDF capabilities, the following major items are still outstanding (we discussed two of those during the last meeting, but then a few more came to my mind):

async support for all/most peripherals (a.k.a. the "drivers" component in ESP-IDF)

• Should be done with no/minimal changes to ESP-IDF itself; from ESP-IDF we seemingly only need a way to register user-provided callbacks into the driver so that we can awake the executor on new incoming data / when the outgoing data was sent and most drivers already support this
• Need to incrementally add async to SPI (there is an open PR about this), I2S, I2C (maybe?), UART and so on
• Please do not confuse this with async support for baremetal (that's a separate roadmap item altogether)
• Async support outside esp-idf-hal (i.e. in esp-idf-svc - the "higher-level" ESP-IDF stuff) is already there

Support for Bluetooth / BLE

• There is an open PR here but it needs some love

Support for the Thread prtotocol

• Not clear what needs to be done here... ESP IDF already supports the OpenThread C API; seems baremetal is converging towards OpenThread as well; need to research whether there are good, safe bindings for OpenThread in Rust

Implement support for the new ESP IDF5 drivers

• Some of the old drivers from ESP IDF 4 were deprecated in ESP IDF 5. We need to have support for the new ones
