BEM++ consists of a main library (situated under lib and under python),
and several support libraries with various licenses.
The following gives a summary of the licenses of BEM++ and the various components
BEM++ main library: MIT License
Foamgrid: LGPL v3
Boost: Boost Software License
Dune: GPL v2 with runtime exception
Intel Threading Building Blocks: GPL v2 with runtime exception
Eigen3: MPL2
In the following we summarize the license text of the various components.
===========================================
The main library (situated under lib and python) is licensed under the MIT license.
Most of the files have the following license text:
Copyright (C) 2011 by the BEM++ Authors
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy
of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal
in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights
to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell
copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the Software is
furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions:
The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in
all copies or substantial portions of the Software.
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR

The files under lib/fiber/quadrature are part of the HyENA project

and have been relicensed under an MIT license with permission by the authors.

Foamgrid (https://users.dune-project.org/projects/dune-foamgrid)
The dune-foamgrid library, headers and test programs are copyrighted free software. You
can use, modify and/or redistribute it under the terms of either one of the two
following licenses:
* The GNU Lesser General Public License as published by the Free Software
Foundation, either Version 3 of the license or (at your option) any later
version. You can find a copy of the GNU Lesser General Public License, Version
3, in the files GPL-3 and LGPL-3 or at <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl-3.0>.
* Version 2 of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software
Foundation, with the following special exception for linking and compiling
against the dune-foamgrid library, the so-called "runtime exception":
As a special exception, you may use the dune-foamgrid source files as part of a
software library or application without restriction. Specifically, if other
files instantiate templates or use macros or inline functions from one or
more of the dune-foamgrid source files, or you compile one or more of the dune-foamgrid
source files and link them with other files to produce an executable, this
does not by itself cause the resulting executable to be covered by the GNU
General Public License. This exception does not however invalidate any
other reasons why the executable file might be covered by the GNU General
Public License.
This license is intended to be similar to the GNU Lesser General Public
License, Version 2, which by itself isn't suitable for a template library. You
can find a copy of the GNU General Public License, Version 2, in the file
GPL-2 or at <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0>.

Boost (www.boost.org)
Boost Software License - Version 1.0 - August 17th, 2003
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person or organization
obtaining a copy of the software and accompanying documentation covered by
this license (the "Software") to use, reproduce, display, distribute,
execute, and transmit the Software, and to prepare derivative works of the
Software, and to permit third-parties to whom the Software is furnished to
do so, all subject to the following:
The copyright notices in the Software and this entire statement, including
the above license grant, this restriction and the following disclaimer,
must be included in all copies of the Software, in whole or in part, and
all derivative works of the Software, unless such copies or derivative
works are solely in the form of machine-executable object code generated by
a source language processor.
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT
SHALL THE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS OR ANYONE DISTRIBUTING THE SOFTWARE BE LIABLE
FOR ANY DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE,
ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER
DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

Dune (www.dune-project.org)
The DUNE library and headers are licensed under version 2 of the GNU General
Public License, with a special exception for linking and compiling against DUNE,
the so-called "runtime exception." The license is intended to be similiar to the
GNU Lesser General Public License, which by itself isn't suitable for a template
library.
The exact wording of the exception reads as follows:
As a special exception, you may use the DUNE library without
restriction. Specifically, if other files instantiate templates or
use macros or inline functions from one or more of the DUNE source
files, or you compile one or more of the DUNE source files and link
them with other files to produce an executable, this does not by
itself cause the resulting executable to be covered by the GNU
General Public License. This exception does not however invalidate
any other reasons why the executable file might be covered by the
GNU General Public License.
This license clones the one of the libstc++ library. For further implications
please see the license page of libstdc++.

Intel Threading Building Blocks (threadingbuildingblocks.org)
The open-source version of Intel TBB is licensed under GPL v2 with a runtime
exception. Details can be found at

Eigen3 (eigen.tuxfamily.org)
See https://www.mozilla.org/MPL/2.0/ for the full text of the MPL2 license
