No, Doklister is much cooler than them.
The CE version is being actively developed at the moment
Maybe you can help this yourself by adding something to the documentation.
Idk =( |

Hi, current actual documentation is located on this repo https://github.com/0test/evo-newdocs The problem to convert old snippets like Ditto, Wayfinder and others to DocLister, DLMenu and other isn't so difficult as it looks like. |

Community Version is the currently developed vesion (by core developers from evo cms) with many enhancements compared to the original evo cms, 1.4x subversion will receive only bugfixes, 3.x will receive updates. |

To be clear, I know nobody who uses these mentioned extras for 5 years or more. Sites, built on that, ends their life cycles, at least, twice. During the support periods we've eventually changed evogallery to simplegallery, menus and news to doclister based, eform to formlister, etc. We didn't even make new 1.4 based sites for 4 years to date. So, that's nobody fault to do nothing. Project is alive as never. Anybody knows about lacking of English tutorials and documentation, and you can help us to make them |

Dmi3yy (and then Sieger) turned an open source project into political discrimination based on nationality by inserting obscene pictures into the project and disabling extras for individual countries and creating a toxic environment in the support chat. They allow themselves to draw conclusions for other people, ascribe imaginary values to them and pass off the fictional as real. An attempt to criticize this approach ends with a ban. But the CE is a separate non-toxic community, friendly to users of all nationalities, is engaged in the development. |

I'm using EVO since 2005 and love the flexibility too, thats why I like to stick around as long as possible. Seems you have a very non-updated website. I think it will be best to use the forum if you run into issues with updating. Some plugins are not being updated anymore for a long time like MaxiGallery and you need to use SimpleGallery for that. Ditto -> DocLister / WayFinder -> DLMenu. Documentation is a weak point. My personal concerns are its getting developed too much for programmers, at least, I hope it will not. (EVO 4) The decision if its worth it is yours. I don't see myself developing sites in CMSses like WP. |

First of all thanks everyone for for the mainly very objective comments as well as the background information on the two projects! As I mentioned in my first post the website was created in 2009 with MODX. As far as I remember at that time there was only one version of MODX (no Revolution / Evolution). Since then, the website has always been kept up to date in terms of content, design and basis (Evolution CMS v1). However, since then I never bothered to drop the previously perfectly working snippets/plugins (Ditto etc.) and replace them with their successors (why should I, as long as everything works ;)). Just because some might run their websites for only 4 years and then redo everything from scratch again doesn't mean everyone has the time and willingness to do so... But anyway.. as @fourroses666 already mentioned I've tested many CMS in the past but these all do not correspond to my ideas how a CMS must be built. MODX (and now Evo) is the only one I was really satisfied with. In principle, I still think the same, if it weren't for the problems described at the beginning of this thread. The most thing I am struggling with is the modifiers. They just don't work as they were before and I was using a lot of them. Sure, many of them were part of PHx but what's the replacement now? For simple IF/ELSE stuff I switched to the new IF-Snippet but if it gets a little more complex, you're practically lost. Some examples: Sometimes the date modifier works fine Also other modifiers used to access fields of other datasets do not work anymore like Or how do I get the ID's of parent documents when I want to go up more than one folder? With UltimateParent it was very easy to get the ID with a simple call like I don't even wanna think about how to modify a call like this, but it should be possible with the IF-Snippet: I think the worst will be the change and the data transfer from MaxiGallery to SimpleGallery... |

I am using Evolution CMS (MODX Evolution) since 2009 and I still love it's concept, the flexibility and especially the Backend (Manager) as it is super easy to use and understand.
However I am worrying where this project is heading to and if it even makes sense to continue with it. I am using Evo version 1.4.17 with PHP 7.4 right now and I need to update it due to PHP's EOL of version 7.x. If I want to upgrade to PHP 8.x there are many issues with Snippets/Plugins that are not working anymore: Ditto, PHx and Maxigallery (but it seems like Wayfinder, Breadcrumbs and UltimateParent are also outdated).
I already started to update things to make it work with Evo CE 1.4.31 and PHP 8.2 but it is a nightmare. It seems like many handy features of Ditto and PHx are just not available anymore. DocLister seems like it offers much less features and it is much more complicated to use. But the worst thing is, that there is no proper documentation. I am not even talking about the lack of an English version, but also the Russian one does only cover like half of the functionality. I usually found the most helpful tips only after a long search in forum posts.
Another thing I am worrying about is that it seems like there are two different projects now which both are maintained. It looks like Dmi3yy isn't active anymore and Seiger is now updating the original Evolution CMS project. In addition, there is now another project here, which is also working on Evolution CMS, the 'community version'. Why is such a small project now heading into two different directions? How do the approaches and future plans differ between the two projects?
And the main question, is it even worth it (for someone whos not speaking Russian) to put work and efford in Websites which were created with Evolution CMS / MODX Evo or is it maybe a better idea to start from the beginning with a widely used and well documented and maintained CMS?
