Big Sur OS update seems to have broken functionality #315
Comments
+1 |
+1 this tool is instrumental for my productivity on Mac :/ |
The alternative, using Hammerspoon, works on Sur: https://github.com/fikovnik/ShiftIt/wiki/The-Hammerspoon-Alternative |
BigSur broke a lot of apps. Just uninstall and install it again, it worked for me. BigSur 11.0.1. |
Kinda worked - had to delete the app and reinstall - then had to uncheck and check ShiftIt from the startup applications list. Only after that did the "Recheck" button work for me. |
Deleted and installed again, did not work for me. |
this worked for me: |
Reinstalling SHIFIT (I'm on MacbookPro BigSur 11.0.1) worked, but the catch is in system accessibility you have to remove (minus sign) the access, and then manually re-add shiftit access (plus sign) and make sure it's checked in the system preferences. |
I actually didn't have to reinstall the app, just remove it (minus sign) from Security & Privacy -> Accessibility, and then re-add it manually (plus sign). |
I've just upgraded from 10.15 to 11.1, then ShiftIt prompt me to enable Accessibility for it even through it was enabled already. I end up remove the checkbox beside it, close/open the preference and enable the checkbox. Now it is working fine. |
Just hitting the minus on ShiftIt and re-adding it in the accessibility did the trick for me. No re-installing. |
Big Sur prevents running unsigned apps outside of App Store. This helped to resolve: |
Just confirming that this worked for me and should be all you need to do. No need to delete/reinstall, only remove (-) it from the list and + it back in. |
Is this a bug in ShiftIt, or a bug in macOS? Given that the checkbox in accessibility permissions doesn't work like a checkbox should. |
same here. newest patch release of MacOs, current version of ShiftIt |
On Big Sur it wasn't detecting the shortcut keys when it was set to CTRL+OPT+CMD. So I re-inputted the shortcuts in Shiftit to SHIFT+CTRL+CMD + hotkey and it seems to be working for me now. Hopefully this helps. |
I don't have any suggestions for fixing an issue, but I can report that ShiftIt continues to work on macOS Monterey 12.2.1 |
What is it about Zoom that breaks ShiftIt?

Even after ensuring the security and privacy settings allow Shiftit to control, the application cannot start (after Big Sur OSX update)
