Some people have multiple different identities they use in different contexts, e.g. a work identity and a home life identity.
I've noticed some users are signing up for multiple accounts in order to make this possible.
We should allow people to add multiple profiles to their profile, and maybe even allow them to specify whether visitors should be able to see the other profiles and/or switch between them.
I think this is low priority because of the aforementioned workaround, and we definitely won't prevent people having multiple accounts if that's what they'd like to do.

+1 as a potential user. Or something similar. I use different forms of my first name in formal (work, medical) and informal (friends, family, online) settings, but there's no separation of identity between them -- both are equally "my name" and both settings know the other (mostly). And really formally I don't use my first name at all. Two accounts isn't the right solution for me, because they aren't separate identities, but I'm struggling to capture all this with one.
@sarrowsmith Thanks for sharing your experience! Multiple profiles doesn't feel quite right here either - I'll have a think over the next few months about how to provide a good experience for this and get back to you with some ideas.
