Personally, I'll probably be sticking with 1080p for quite a while. My primary 28-inch monitor is 1080p, and I feel like I would have to start increasing my OS's interface scaling if the pixel density was any higher. I have a 13-inch laptop that's also 1080p, and I have to scale to at least 125% for things to be comfortably legible.

According to the Steam Hardware Survey, the most popular (67% of players) resolution is still 1080p. Even if people are looking to upgrade their hardware, I bet most would focus on increasing the performance and fidelity of games running at 1080p over an increase in resolution.

That said, 4K is probably the ideal resolution to target for a 2D game at the momen…
