Describe the problem
Some games are not running in SteamOS' Gaming Mode. They ran fine prior to the update from April 12, and continue to run after manually downgrading the flatpak to the previous version from January.

All games work in Desktop mode, even in the newest version.

Some users in the r/SteamDeck subreddit have reported the same.

Seems to have to do with GE-Proton.

Is it reproducible with native Lutris?

Native Lutris is not recommended to be installed in SteamOS. I have not tried it.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install a game
  2. Create Steam shortcut
  3. Try to run it in Gaming Mode.

Expected behavior
Game to run, provided that it runs in Desktop Mode.

Actual behavior
Upon clicking "Play",the Steam logo remains on the screen for a few seconds and we are sent back to the menu instead of going into the game

Seems like the issue was resolved in umu-launcher:

Open-Wine-Components/umu-launcher#92

only waiting for lutris to push it as part of its runtime packages
