Not necessarily an issue, more of a question that was not found on the wiki.

As a migrant from KissManga, I'm trying to transfer my favorites to MangaDex.

When I use the handy Transfer website option, I unchecked the box that said 'Clear downloaded chapter list and reload from the server' - in the hopes that it would try to check the latest chapter number successfully downloaded from KissManga and not need to re-download every chapter from the series on MangaDex from the beginning.

However, when I tried that on a newly transferred series (Kono no Tomare) it started downloading from chapter 1. Did I do something wrong, or was I misunderstanding the feature? I understand that there must be a ton of coding to even attempt to match up some of the wacky numberings some sites use. Just wondered.

Amazing app btw! Great work from all those involved and the community as a whole.

They use different structure, so when you use transfer feature, sometimes it won't work as you want it. What i do is, when that happens, i just add to download list and then remove them. Like, i've already downloaded Kono no Tomare from 1 to 10 for example. I just add 1-10 to the list and remove, so next time i check new chapters, it will show me 11+ chapters.

Another part of the problem is that Kissmanga also played it real fast and loose with being tidy about chapter numbering, naming, and quality.

So sometimes you'd get things like:

  • The same chapter uploaded twice due to different numbering schemes (for example, a sidestory chapter being numbered by one person as Ch. 017.1 and then by another as Ch. 017.5)

  • The "same" chapter being uploaded twice because two groups both did the same chapter (Sometimes because of a genuine accident, sometimes because the first chapter was a sloppily, quickly shat-out mess and some other group did it properly, or sometimes because of bizarre scanlation feuds)

  • Chapters being out of order because their names put them elsewhere in the list after being sorted (for example, Ch. 75, Ch. 76, Ch. 77, Vol.01 Ch. 01, Vol.01 Ch.02... )

  • The same chapter being uploaded because one has chapter number and title while the other has just the number

  • The occasional multi-chapter "chapter" when someone scanned in a full tank and uploaded it as a single chapter because, uh. ...Reasons? No idea. This always baffled me.

As you can see, all of these things--and more--throw off the alleged "chapter count" because Kissmanga couldn't be bothered to maintain jack shit (which I guess is the price you pay for equally lax restrictions on what got uploaded). As a result, you can't trust the number in your favorites tab, because all that is is the number of "chapter" items associated with that manga, not the actual last chapter number read.

For that very reason, I am in the middle of transferring each KM manga one at a time, checking what mangadex has vs. the last read KM chapter URLs off of an Excel sheet (where I dumped the extracted Favorites.db list). And I'm glad I did, because I'm discovering that I would have been bitten hard in the ass if I'd just blindly trusted the chapter counts as given.

Good luck.
