Move to next split or next tab while still in zen mode?

Is there a way to move to the next split or next tab while still in zen mode? Right now I have my keybind to exit zen mode, move to the next split and enter zen mode, which works fine except for the gui flash from entering and exiting zen mode, which is kind of jarring. Just wondering if anyone had an idea on how I could make the moves without the flash? Thanks!
