-	abstract = {Das Korpus "d-Prose 1870-1920" ist eine heterogene Sammlung aus 2529 deutschsprachigen, literarischen Prosatexten, die zwischen 1870 und 1920 publiziert wurden. Es enthält Erzähltexte aus Trivial- und Hochliteratur mit einem Mindestumfang von 1000 Wörtern. Das Korpus wurde im Rahmen des hermA-Teilprojekts „Gender und Krankheit“ aus manuell und teilautomatisch ausgewählten Texten aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum erstellt. Die Textdateien wurden dem KOLIMO-Korpus (Lauer/Hermann 2017) entnommen, welches wiederum auf den Repositorien TextGrid  (Neuroth/Rapp/Söring 2015), Deutsches Textarchiv (BBAW 2017) sowie Gutenberg-de (Reuters 2017) beruht. Aus den XML-Dateien des KOLIMO-Korpus wurden alle deutschsprachigen literarischen Prosatexte, die zwischen 1870 und 1920 publiziert wurden, mithilfe des Programms KOLIMOtoText (Adelmann 2020) als Textdateien extrahiert. Doppelt vorkommende Texte wurden mithilfe des Autor-Name-Titel-Vergleichsprogramms ANTComp (Adelmann 2020a) und des Volltextvergleichsprogramms BatchSED (Adelmann 2020b) zur automatisierten Dublettenbereinigung entfernt (vgl. Adelmann \& Gius 2020). Die verbliebenen Texte wurden für die Bedürfnisse automatisierter Analysen manuell von paratextuellen Elementen (Widmungen, Herausgeberkommentaren, Autor:innennamen etc.) bereinigt, sodass allein der Prosatext mit dem Werktitel in den Dateien erhalten sind. Die Texte liegen als Reintextdateien mit einer dazugehörigen Metadatentabelle vor. Die Metadatentabelle wurde enthält für jedes Werk Daten zu Autor:innenname, Titel des Werks, Repositorienquelle, Dateiname sowie Publikationsdatum (extrahiert aus den Metadaten der Ursprungsrepositorien, kontrolliert und ggf. korrigiert oder erweitert um Daten aus den Literaturlexika Killy und Kindler). Die größte Datei mit einem Umfang von 6,2 MB beinhaltet den Fortsetzungsroman Deutsche Herzen - Deutsche Helden von Karl May (980981 Wörter). Die kleinste Datei die Erzählung Die Verlobung von Ludwig Thoma mit einem Umfang von 6 KB (1019 Wörter). Referenzen: Adelmann, Benedikt (2020): KOLIMOtoText. -	abstract = {In this contribution we discuss what we call the “digital humanities-as-structuralism” narrative for the case of computational literary studies. To better understand the entailed criticism, we start with some background for the non-computational aspects in this narrative. First, we single out major criticisms against structuralism. We then introduce a general and theory-independent model of literary text analysis and discuss hypothesis development and justification in literary studies. This builds the ground for our analysis of structuralism criticisms in computational literary studies. In our discussion of the “digital humanities-as-structuralism” narrative, we examine the use of computational methods for the exploration and confirmation of interpretation hypotheses and its potential relation to structuralist issues. We argue that the “digital humanities-as-structuralism” narrative may be productive where it cautions against reductionist approaches, but it is not appropriate for describing exploratory or partial approaches and the presentation of their findings. There, the computational approaches should rather be seen as enabling connectivity and fostering the joint endeavor of understanding.},

In diesem Beitrag wird ein vielversprechender Kandidat für ein solches integriertes Modell vorgestellt: Ontology Logs (ologs). Ologs basieren auf mathematischer Kategorientheorie und unterstützen die gedankliche Ausarbeitung einerseits und gewährleisten die unkomplizierte Implementation als Datenschemata andererseits. -	abstract = {Automatizing the process of understanding the global narrative structure of long texts and stories is still a major challenge for state-of-the-art natural language understanding systems, particularly because annotated data is scarce and existing annotation workflows do not scale well to the annotation of complex narrative phenomena. In this work, we focus on the identification of narrative levels in texts corresponding to stories that are embedded in stories. Lacking sufficient pre-annotated training data, we explore a solution to deal with data scarcity that is common in machine learning: the automatic augmentation of an existing small data set of annotated samples with the help of data synthesis. We present a workflow for narrative level detection, that includes the operationalization of the task, a model, and a data augmentation protocol for automatically generating narrative texts annotated with breaks between narrative levels. Our experiments suggest that narrative levels in long text constitute a challenging phenomenon for state-of-the-art NLP models, but generating training data synthetically does improve the prediction results considerably.},

Das Korpus enthält sowohl kanonisierte als auch nicht-kanonisierte Texte und Autor:innen. Es wurde 2020-22 im forTEXT-Lab an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt literaturwissenschaftlich kuratiert. Das Korpus ist in drei Teilkorpora gegliedert: 1. Kernkorpus (26 Texte) 2. Ergänzungskorpus I (48) 3. Ergänzungskorpus II (41) Die Zuordnung von Texten und Autor:innen zur Epoche der Romantik wurde aufgrund von Recherchen im Kindler Literatur-Lexikon (Arnold 2009), im Killy-Literaturlexikon (Killy / Kühlmann 2008), in den Annalen der Deutschen Literatur (Burger 1952) und im Romantik-Handbuch (Schanze 1994) vorgenommen. Der Roman wird als epische Langform verstanden, die häufig in Untereinheiten wie Kapitel und / oder Bücher strukturiert ist. Im Korpus befinden sich sowohl vollendete Romane als auch Fragmente. Die Texte haben eine Länge zwischen 8.406 und 386.188 Tokens. Die Zahl der Tokens im Text wurde mit Quanteda für R (Benoit et al. 2018) berechnet. Kritisch ist in diesem Zusammenhang besonders die Zuordnung der Texte zur Romantik, die hier mithilfe der Standard Literaturlexika Kindler Literatur-Lexikon (KLL) (Arnold 2009), Killy-Literaturlexikon (Killy) (Killy / Kühlmann 2008) und Annalen der Deutschen Literatur (ADLG) (Burger 1952) sowie des Romantik-Handbuchs (Schanze 1994) vorgenommen wurde. Generell fallen alle enthaltenen Texte in die Entstehungszeit der klassisch-romantischen Kunstperiode (Bär 2010ff). Der Beginn der Epoche der Romantik wird übereinstimmend auf das Jahr 1790 datiert (vgl. Schanze 1994, 36, Kremer 1997, 6, Schmitz-Emans 2016, 7). Bei der Bestimmung des Epochenendes herrscht hingegen weniger Einigkeit. Mögliche Endpunkte sind die 1830er (Kremer 1997, 6), 1841 (Schmitz-Emans 2016, 7) und 1850 (Schanze 1994, 69). Darauf aufbauend befinden sich im {\textless}strong{\textgreater}Kernkorpus{\textless}/strong{\textgreater} insgesamt 26 Texte, deren Erstdruck in die Zeit zwischen 1792 und 1833 fallen und die in mindestens einem der Standard-Literaturlexika KLL, Killy oder ADLG oder im Romantik-Handbuch der Romantik zugeordnet werden. Im {\textless}strong{\textgreater}Ergänzungskorpus I{\textless}/strong{\textgreater} befinden sich insgesamt 48 Texte, die zum ersten Mal zwischen 1791 und 1841 erschienen. Es handelt sich um Romane, von Autor:innen, die in mindestens einem der oben erwähnten Werke der Romantik zugeordnet wurden. Im {\textless}strong{\textgreater}Ergänzungskorpus II{\textless}/strong{\textgreater} sind insgesamt 41 Texte enthalten, die zwischen 1776 und 1854 erstveröffentlicht wurden. Die in Ergänzungskorpus II hinzugefügten Daten lassen sich in drei Gruppen untergliedern: (1) Romane, die als prägend für die romantische Romanschriftstellerei gelten wie z.B. Goethes {\textless}em{\textgreater}Wilhelm Meister{\textless}/em{\textgreater} oder Schillers {\textless}em{\textgreater}Geisterseher{\textless}/em{\textgreater}, (2) Romane deren Autor:innen der Romantik zugeordnet wurden und die sowohl in der Kernzeit der Romantik als auch kurz davor und danach erstpubliziert wurden und (3) Romane von Autor:innen, die in der Kernzeit der Romantik publiziert wurden und sich oft großer Beliebtheit erfreuten, die aber aufgrund ihres Genres, wie z.B. historischer Roman oder Ritterroman, oder des Stils in der Literaturwissenschaft als Trivial- oder Populärliteratur klassifiziert wurden. Im Kernkorpus sind mit zwei Ausnahmen Romane kanonisierter Autor:innen vertreten. In den Ergänzungskorpora I und II sind sowohl kanonisierte als auch nicht-kanonisierte Autor:innen erfasst. Der Kanonisierungsstatus von Text und/oder Autor*in wird hier als erreicht betrachtet, wenn es einen eigenen Eintrag im Kindler Literatur-Lexikon (Arnold 2009) gibt. Die Textdateien wurden dem TextGrid Repositorium (Neuroth/Rapp/Söring 2015) oder Gutenberg-de (Reuters 2017) entnommen. Sie liegen als Reintextdateien mit einer dazugehörigen Metadatentabelle vor. Für die Metadatentabelle wurden aus den Ursprungsrepositorien Informationen extrahiert über Autor:innenname, Titel des Werks, die Ausgabe, die als Vorlage diente, Angaben zum Erstdruck. Das bei DHd-Konferenzen bis inklusive 2020 verwendete Modell der Teilanonymisierung (sog. single-blind-Modell), bei dem die Autor:innen den Gutachter:innen namentlich bekannt waren, jedoch nicht umgekehrt, wurde nach einem Beschluss der Mitgliederversammlung 2020 probeweise durch ein zero-blind-Modell abgelöst. Dieses Panel soll der DHd-Community die Möglichkeit geben, sich über das Begutachtungsverfahren zu informieren und auszutauschen in einem Rahmen außerhalb der Mitgliederversammlung, um der Diskussion mehr Zeit zu geben und auch die vielen betroffenen Nicht-Mitglieder zu integrieren. Erfahrungen aus DHd-Diskussionen sowie Publikationen zum Thema legen nahe, dass im Aspekt der Offenlegung der Identität bzw. Anonymität das größte Potential für Kontroversen liegt. -	abstract = {Automatizing the process of understanding the global narrative structure of long texts and stories is still a major challenge for state-of-the-art natural language understanding systems, particularly because annotated data is scarce and existing annotation workflows do not scale well to the annotation of complex narrative phenomena. In this work, we focus on the identification of narrative levels in texts corresponding to stories that are embedded in stories. Lacking sufficient pre-annotated training data, we explore a solution to deal with data scarcity that is common in machine learning: the automatic augmentation of an existing small data set of annotated samples with the help of data synthesis. We present a workflow for narrative level detection, that includes the operationalization of the task, a model, and a data augmentation protocol for automatically generating narrative texts annotated with breaks between narrative levels. Our experiments suggest that narrative levels in long text constitute a challenging phenomenon for state-of-the-art NLP models, but generating training data synthetically does improve the prediction results considerably.},

A scene here is a segment of the text where time and discourse time are more or less equal, the narration focuses on one action and location and character constellations stay the same. The corpus we describe consists of German-language dime novels (550k tokens) that have been annotated in parallel, achieving an inter-annotator agreement of gamma = 0.7. Baseline experiments using BERT achieve an F1 score of 24\%, showing that the task is very challenging. An automatic scene segmentation paves the way towards processing longer narrative texts like tales or novels by breaking them down into smaller, coherent and meaningful parts, which is an important stepping stone towards the reconstruction of plot in Computational Literary Studies but also can serve to improve tasks like coreference resolution.},
