From @jenniferfsmith on August 4, 2017 23:28 We can't talk about diversity and inclusion without also addressing race and ethnicity. These are issues that go far beyond what is captured by geographic origin and linguistic background. Also, Force11 should strive to ensure that its leadership team and planning committees reflect the diversity of the scholars who they would seek to have attend. If people of color, people from under-represented communities, and people outside of Europe and English-speaking North America are not currently serving in leadership roles, they should be recruited because their perspectives and contributions are valuable and important. |
In the NumFOCUS DISC unconference at PyData, we are talking about this now. Our current draft questions (substituting FORCE11 in) include: Do you work in (check all that apply): What stage are you in your current career: Please identify the country where you currently reside: Do you self-identify as an under-represented/unprivileged minority in either the FORCE11 community and/or in your professional field? Are there other factors that prevent from fully participating in your chosen FORCE11 activities? |
