Reproduction:

Go to a dinnerware vendor, and you'll see there's a purple & black checkerboard pattern where the icon for a fork should be. If you vend one, it will be invisible, and you can only pick it up by right-clicking or alt-clicking its tile.
Craft Buffalo Gourd Soup, and it will have no sprite.

Desert Combat Boots lack an obj sprite, only an on-mob sprite.
