Unable to generate new custom fields

I went to /admin/settings/general and didnt see any dialog for creating new metafields.
Tried clicking the chrome extention icon, it loads the custom fields icon on the left, but still no dialog. Am i doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. The custom field script doesn't have the ability to create the metafields on the settings page. The new version will since people seem to want it.

If we look back at the history of the tool it was only every intended for developers to give to their customers (aka, the merchant). The developer would have already set up the fields so the client would never need to add the settings.

Use something like ShopifyFD or another metafield editing app to add the settings.

OK, I just got really confused about this, because the PDF guide that new users are directed to specifically says you can go to /admin/settings/general to create new fields. Perhaps that section should be removed from the PDF.

Second page of the PDF mentions that we'll be using ShopifyFD. I can look at making that clearer - but won't be removing the section.
