Roadmap

This roadmap is not set in stone - we may always decide to defer a problematic feature to a later release, or bring something forward if we are provided with patches. It is supposed to give an overview and a basis for discussions of the future development of Gluon.
- VXLANs for Mesh-on-WAN/LAN
Encapsulate mesh traffic on LAN/WAN into VXLAN with VXLAN IDs that are unique per mesh domain, thereby preventing the bridging of multiple domains. - Rewrite autoupdater in C
- Multidomain Support
Support multiple distinct mesh domains in a single firmware image.
- based on OpenWrt 18.06
- Experimental support for the Babel routing protocol with l3roamd
- Outdoor Mode
Enable the use of client accessible WiFi on 5 GHz outdoor channels that require DFS/TPC, with the limitation that WiFI mesh will be disabled, because it would require a stable channel configuration.
- Mesh-independent autoupdater
- New respondd protocol (based on CoAP?)
- Support for NetJSON
- New network setup based on network namespaces (for better separation of mesh and WAN on the nodes)
- Issues we hope to solve by using network namespaces: https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/milestones/network-rewrite
- Integration of a new configuration system more suitable for Gluon than UCI (NeoRaider's GSoC project)
