Have you thought about send this patch to upstream nftables git? I think this would help to get better maintenance.

Nope. It needs to grant permission from the previous authors.

I agree this should ideally be upstreamed. Is it really about the permission from the authors though? The original code is GPL 2.0, so this repo is under the same license, right? It is then compatible with the Linux kernel license and I'm not convinced you need the permission from the original author. Asking the author doesn't hurt though and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind at all.

Upstreaming this into the kernel is another thing though and probably a non-trivial effort. However, it is probably worth it given the maintenance burden for all of us using the code. I don't have experience writing kernel code let alone pushing it to the upstream kernel. Anyone willing to have a go at it?
