Project Still Alive? Potential for a fork?

The last commit was in 2018; there are 42 issues and 7 pull requests. Would this project be considered dead? Perhaps it would be time to fork? I use keychain daily but really need the functionality of ssh-ident which also seems to be dead or stale https://github.com/ccontavalli/ssh-ident

I too am wondering about the status of the project. At https://www.funtoo.org/Funtoo:Keychain, it says, "Daniel maintained keychain through September of 2017." What happened after that?

I have hobby development experience at best, so I will likely fork and hobby develop this for my use.
