Specifying offset/adjustment for node symbol position

We would like to right-justify the node symbols; they appear to default to left-justify with no nodes.adj option available.

In the attached you can see what we're trying to do; we're trying to represent each node as a labelled rectangle. We've forced the size (width) of node symbol to fit the labels, but because they are left (or bottom) justified, they block the point where the arcs attach.

Alternatively, we could set label background highlighting if that was available as an option...

One option is for us to color the node labels, but it is not quite what we're trying to achieve...
