0.5U mount for [Rpi4 + DeskPi hdmi/usbc extension] + [2.5" ssd] + [Wire Pass] #107

This looks really nice, Do you think you could make on with 2 pis side by side in that format? |
Here you go, available on makerworld ! |
That is a really nice bit of work. This however highlights to me one of the biggest issues with the 10" rack standard and that is the hanging onto the 1U spacing and more so the odd vertical rail spacing of holes. The reality is modern electronics doesn't always need 1U of vertical space. In fact is some cases 1U just wastes space, when you do need the space the flexibility doesn't change one bit. That is one reason I would like to see a conversion to hard metric with 1U (call it 1M) of height being 22 mm. Effectively half the current height or about 7/8". Then of course you should have a rational vertical spacing of screw holes, say every 11mm. I'm throwing out those vertical numbers because screw size is a factor plus a screwless solution could make sense. By the way if we call this new height unit M, it can realistically stand for MODULE or METRIC depending on your location in the world. |
Nice work on the double! Will print! I tend to agree on the 1M concept, although I would chose a spacing that is compatible with existing 1U module types. For example all holes are 16mm (the standard 5/8in hole rounded up) this would create some gaps in classical 1U designs between modules and a tight spacing for people adopting the new standard. I am building this architecture and and happy to implement if you guys want to give it a print https://github.com/garrettekinsman/OpenNode |
Its beginning to look good, Thanks for the prints!

Hello!
I made a 0.5U adapter to hold an RPi4 + DeskPi hdmi/usbc extension, a 2.5" ssd. It also doubles as a wire pass.
The comb part of the wire pass is printed using TPU for AMS.
Available for free here with an open license, feel free to remake and share!
I also provide a wide open wire pass version (no comb) and a no wire pass version in the print profile.
