I was giving PsychoDromeda's suggestion more thought. About making regular units less effective against Main buildings so more siege weapons would be required.
And @Jammyjamjamman mentioned a good way it could be done, if it were implemented. (And if it were, it wouldn't begin to happen for a few months)
Then give all mains "siege" armor.. siege weapons would have a higher damage multiplier on units with "siege" armor.. regular combat units would have less effect on mains.
One advantage to this would be.. make things a bit more interesting I think... Secondly, it's kind of annoying at the end of the game when there are hundreds of archers just shooting buildings, trying to get past each other, and some players can't even get their units in.
The "impact" attack would have more effect on units with siege armor.
As for factions that don't have siege units, such as Indians - perhaps changing the fire golem attack to "impact", and give it more speed. (With an impact attack, it would be good to change the projectile particles emitted by the fire golem).

But adding an armor of type "siege" to this file https://github.com/ZetaGlest/zetaglest-data/blob/develop/techs/zetapack/zetapack.xml
