Hi!

Why isn't it possible to share a single file with an existing Seafile user/group/organisation? Why do i have to share a Lib or Folder at first?

Why is the UI saying i can add members (click file info at the top) but when a want to add members i still have to put the file in an already shared Lib or Folder with the desired user.
This is an UI/UX pain point. Because most of the modern cloudservices let me share single files with existing users.

Thank you.

@brutasse @rutsky @jjjasont @killing Would it be possible to implement this as a plugin or extension?

Seafile is organized by libraries. Folder is the minimal share unit. If you'd like to share a file, you can use external links.

We don't have a plan to support sharing a single file to a user, group internally.

But why is this? Every cloudservice like Google Drive, ICloud, nextcloud, owncloud,... can do this.

The usecase "I want to share a file to edit with my coworker to work" is so common and not to have this would be a huge UX fail. Sorry. But the thing is you kinda alleready have the UI bueeried in a sidebar menu. "Teilnehmer"

But this wont work until the file is shared in a lib or folder.

yes you can share the link but this wont put it to your lib as the same file but only just a copy if you decide to safe it to your account.
