are there any plans to remove the dependency on haskell-src-exts?

haskell-src-exts seems to not be actively maintained any more.

haskell-src-exts recommend to check ghc-lib-parser

GHC api is another option.

This would require quite a bit of work but it may be necessary anyway in the long run. Maintaining custom lexer and parser to get names does not seem feasible

You might want to try ghc-lib-parser instead.
