Window List or Extension Hiding

Describe the idea or feature you'd like
It would be nice to have a drop down menu with the apps instead of taskbar buttons on the panel or have a way to hide extensions -- I tried an extension that can hide, but it doesn't keep working or is incompatible with one of my extensions (which I believe might be this one, but haven't had time to fully test).

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It is a problem to display taskbar buttons and extensions on smaller screens.

I can create a mock up if needed to make this clearer.

I thought of one more design that would work, it would show the active app and a button to show a list of running apps.

Any of these are better than the slow scrolling app buttons.
