How to modify default window behavior for ultrawide monitor: first window half-width instead of fullscreen

I'm using an ultrawide monitor (essentially treating it as two screens in KDE env), and I'm looking to modify the default window behavior in Hyprland.

Current behavior:

• First window in workspace opens fullscreen (I mean taking the whole space)
• Second window triggers split-screen behavior
• Works great for standard monitors but too wide for ultrawide

Desired behavior (either option):

1. First window opens floating and not fullscreen, subsequent windows trigger normal tiling
   OR
2. First window automatically aligns to left half of screen, second window goes right, then continue normal tiling

Question:
Is there a way to achieve either of these behaviors? I'd prefer a global solution rather than setting rules for specific applications.

System info:

• Hyprland version: Hyprland, built from branch at commit 4520b30 (version: bump to 0.44.1)
