Cannot upload books/videos from Chrome Android #277

I tried to upload videos from a smartphone and tablet, using Chrome for Android, all items in directories are greyed out. Tested on Ubuntu 24.04, Raspberry Pi OS.

Not a Calibre-Web only issue.

Workaround proposed in the above thread:

Type chrome://flags in the your search bar and enable Use deprecated External Picker method

Issue was observed in two Android 10 devices. One of them was fixed by setting storage permission for Chrome. The other one has appropriate permission, but the owner will discard it. I will leave this open for a couple days while I keep on testing on other old devices. I'll close the ticket if it turns out only one device is affected by the issue.

Thanks for documenting:

  • Support should focus on devices from the most recent 5 years primarily.

  • Large-scale failures should also be documented, where we can, especially if others have not already done so.
