Help: Error message when trying to run IJP plugins

First of all thank you for making this tools, when I try to run Color Calibrator I get this error message (in OSX version Ventura 13.0.1):
" Cannot initialize JavaFX: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: javafx/concurrent/Task has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 55.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 "
I followed the install instructions, downloading ImageJ and pasting ij-plugins folder inside the ImageJ plugins folder, excuse my total ignorance in programming but did I do something wrong? Can I do anything to fix it?

SOLVED: I installed it with Fiji app instead of ImageJ app and it works, besides of a similar warning message that in the Readme of the Fiji's ijp-color plugin is explained that doesn't affect its normal functionality.

I encounter the same issue but installing the plugging with Fiji did not solve the problem. When I try to run the plugging with ImageJ, I get the error described at https://github.com/ij-plugins/ijp-color/wiki/ImageJ-Launcher-Troubleshooting. I tried to open ImageJ using the ImageJ.bat file but I get the error message described in this post, related to JavaFX. Any solution?

Whoops, my mistake, regarding this new problem seems that Fiji or ImageJ comes with its own Java Runtime version bundled (the 8th which is not even available to download) and according to chatGPT an easy way to solve it is uninstalling Java Runtime from your PC, how to do it: ask chatGPT, it will guide you very well step by step but expect troubleshooting back and forth for sure, seriously i've been creating color science python scripts for the last weeks and I have no idea of coding.
If it's any help, if you are using a mac os (after uninstalling the incompatible JRE) you can try and copy paste my working version of Fiji.app file directly into you applications folder, it should work. Although when selecting the Color Calibrator plugin it appears a warning meassage like: "Jul 05, 2023 5:10:45 PM javafx.fxml.FXMLLoader$ValueElement processValue
WARNING: Loading FXML document with JavaFX API of version 17 by JavaFX runtime of version 8.0.322"
You can ignore it as apparently it's not relevant to the normal functioning of the plugin and only may affect the GUI if at all.

On other hand, I should mention that i was now analysing the colour space remappings of Color calibrator plugin i don't think they're what I was expecting, originally i used Color Calibrator as an alternative of Davinci Resolve's calibrations and now I'm seeing through analysing the colour space remapping that Davinci Resolve actually does a proper color space transformations, so I would really recommend you to avoid all that frustrating process and try Davinci Resolve color calibration, it's public, cross platform and updated as it's a major industry tool; it's a video editor but you can perfectly work in photos as well, important to mention is that Davinci's colour calibration requires a known standardised gamma (contrast curve) to do a proper calibration ( when left to Auto seems to avoid calibrating too much the contrast ) but if you can make raw images from your camera you can easly solve that profiling beforehand the gamma of your stills camera creating a 1D LUT that converts your source contrast to a standardised one that Davinci Resolve recognises and from there calibrate the camera to a display standard like rec.709 gamut with gamma 2.4 or whatever you want really like converting that calibration into a 3D LUT that you could apply it to any image to Photoshop or Lightroom. If you need help on seting up the Davinci Resolve workflow, specially the camera's gamma profiling, don't hesitate to ask it's really reliable and easy once you've set the color science.

@Marion-Chatelain Can you post what specific error you are getting? Are you planning to use ImageJ1 or Fiji?
I would install ImageJ/Fiji version without a JVM then add new version of Java rather than start with version that has Java already. Just less confession when trying to resolve it. The original launchers for ImageJ and Fiji both have issues with newer Java versions.

I crated updated launchers for each that make it easier to use them with Java versions newer than 8:

• for ImageJ (Windows) is here: https://github.com/ij-plugins/ImageJ-Launcher/releases,
• for Fiji (Windows, Mac, Linux) is here: https://github.com/ij-plugins/ijp-imagej-launcher (it has detailed installation instructions)

Eventually all this may should simplified and be part of the "official" distributions, though some help is needed to get it moving faster.

Let me know what error you are getting and we can figure this out.

Thank you @jpsacha for your answer. I am using ImageJ (although I also tried with Fiji). As for Java, I managed to force ImageJ to use the newly installed JDK 20. However, I still get the error message below:

I will now try to use the updated launcher for ImageJ.

I just updated the launcher for ImageJ. Now the tools White Balance and Color Chart Tool work but not the Color Calibrator (see error message in the attached image).

@Marion-Chatelain your error "... this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0" indicates that you are running ImageJ using Java 8:

New JavaFX recent JavaFX versions require Java 11 (class file version 55) or newer. Without seeing your setup it is tricky to you it not set right to use the Java 20 that you installed.

There are two key pieces of information ImageJ needs to start properly:

• Location of java.exe (depending where your Java 20 is installed), that will address the class file version issue
• Location of where you installed the ij-plugins-color

You have two options to start ImageJ:

• using a launcher (you will need to updated one https://github.com/ij-plugins/ImageJ-Launcher/releases)
• or specifying the command line (as described in https://github.com/ij-plugins/ijp-color/wiki/ImageJ-Launcher-Troubleshooting), but piece providing location to Java: jre\bin\javaw.exe needs to be changed to your java installation, say C:\apps\java20\bin\java.exe (you will need to determine what is yours)

The ImageJ launcher, including the updated one, relies on content of ImageJ.cfg located in ImageJ directory to locate Java and plugins. You will need to edit it to provide correct location of java.exe. Here is an example ImageJ.cfg:

1. The first line has a single dot character indicating ImageJ directory in in the same directory as ImageJ.cfg (do not change)
2. The second line is the location of java.exe. You will need to edit to set to your Java, say C:\apps\java20\bin\java.exe.
3. The third line should be fine

I tried installing Fiji to see if it would work since it did for IRCGraphic, but got an error.
Then I tried your approach for Fiji (installing it without JRE, downloading it separately and getting the launcher) but got this error when trying to run the plugin, how should I procced?
