Improve feel of realtime messaging #7

User messaging should feel as realtime as possible. Should experiment with solutions such as updating the message each time the user types a new character and using a more dynamic animation for showing new messages.

we should try and get this one sorted. Its been awhile since i last spent time on this. should we close the previous PR?
