OpenCL Header Version Requirements

Hello, I am attempting to build version 6.2.0 of the compiler for a development version of Ubuntu 26.04, and the build for the OpenCL UR adapter fails due to what I assume are version incompatibilities with the OpenCL headers that are packaged for Ubuntu 26.04. See this issue for more details: canonical/oneapi-packaging#16

I'm wondering if you have made plans to add support for the newer version of OpenCL (version 2025.07.22). Do you plan to add support for the next release of the compiler?

If I understand correctly, the fix is a matter of passing -DCL_ENABLE_BETA_EXTENSIONS‎=ON, but we may want to have the UR buildable without those beta extensions (because their API isn't exactly stable, I assume).

Even though we had released 6.2.0, we can consider doing a patch release from it to unblock its packaging. If there is a patch ready for this, let me and/or @KornevNikita know and we will take a look and help with a cherry-pick and making a new release tag.

Thanks, @AlexeySachkov . I tried building with DCL_ENABLE_BETA_EXTENSIONS=ON and this appears to resolve almost all of the build failures, but not all:

But that's only if I'm building from the tip of the sycl branch, right? It looks like that contains a number of other code changes to the opencl UR adapter over the last week or two.

If I want to build v6.2.0 with the new version of OpenCL - is it safe to build with the DCL_ENABLE_BETA_EXTENSIONS=ON flag (plus the memset patch you linked above)?

yes, for older versions like v6.2.0 the memset patch + DCL_ENABLE_BETA_EXTENSIONS=ON should work
