As a user of an InvenioRDM instance, I would like to request to join any public community that has enabled such requests, in order to become a participating member of that community.
As a community manager, I want to be able to mark my community as accepting membership requests or not, in order to follow established policies for the community (maybe community is not meant to have people join -more of a collection-, maybe don't have the desire to triage requests, ...).
As a community manager, I want to determine the role of the requester as part of the membership request flow, so that they have appropriate permissions within the community.
At the last telecon (2024-06-25) @lnielsen was asking partners to mark the features they are working on. I am continuing my work on this. My hope is for it to make it to a v12.1 (or v13 if it comes out sooner). The ticket inveniosoftware/invenio-communities#855 is referenced by all the PRs, so the progression can be tracked easily.
This work will also cover in addition to the outlined functionality:
serializing the links for Members, Invitations and MembershipRequests correctly
providing Invitations with a (functional) Cancel button on the Invitations listing page
