Should have the runtime root where (unknown) is shown in 4.1.0:

Simulator SDK Roots:
'iOS 7.1' (7.1 - 11D167)
    (unknown)
'iOS 8.2' (8.2 - 12D508)
    (unknown)
'iOS 8.3' (8.3 - 12F69)
    (unknown)

Check /Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes/ -- for each .simruntime file, read the Contents/Resources/RuntimeRoot/SDKSettings.plist
Check "xcode-select --print-path"/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator.sdk/SDKSettings.plist
