Think you for this improved version of Media Player widget.
It would be great if the widget could filter out image files as it merely displays default image viewer app (e.g. Gwenview) icon in that case.

If I understand right, you would like that gwenview didn't show up in the plasmoid when doing a slideshow?
The plasmoid usually does not choose, but it shows what the applications tell to show. Some of them give more information, or thumbnails and some doesn't.

In this case I think it is a bug in gwenview itself: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413596

Since gwenview showing as a media player when it shouldn't sometimes bothers me too, I think I'll try to fix it there if I got the time :)

@ismailof Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. This plasmoid (I use on a Latte Dok sidebar) only displays app icon when I launch an image viewer like Gwenview or a video player like VLC or MPV, therefore becoming useless. So it could be better not to bother at all (saving some system resources maybe?) as those apps have better control buttons. Actually the plasmoid is really useful when playing music with audio player minimized or closed to tray.
Of course, it would worth the effort (to ignore image viewers and video players) only if this will save us something (memory, CPu usage etc.).
