Lesson 1.1: Welcome & Setup

Key Points

This lesson introduces the concept of coding, Code Nation, and the volunteers who will be teaching.

Note: Time will vary for these activities based on the size & timing of your class. The times listed are the minimum number of minutes needed.

  • 👋 Welcome & Activity (20) :

    • Begin the session with a welcome message and a short activity to engage students.

  • 👀 Fellowship Overview (15) :

    • Introduce the Code Nation Fellowship program and its goals.

  • 📑 Class Agenda (5) :

    • Share the daily agenda with time allocations for each section.

  • 💬 Slack (10) :

    • Introduce Slack as a communication tool for the class and explain its usage.

  • ⏳ Break (10)

  • 👾 Kahoot! (20)

    • Play Kahoot! game to review HTML and CSS concepts from the previous year.

  • 📝 Exit Ticket & Registration (10)

    • Students will complete a quick, 5-question check for understanding on class tools ans complete class registration.

  • ✨ Company Tour (30) :

    • Begin the company tour segment, introducing the students to the company and its mentors.

Common Misconceptions

Some students might believe that they need to have extensive technical skills before starting the Fellowship. Reassure them that the program is designed to teach them from the basics and build their skills over time.
