Maybe it would make sense to introduce the following type:
struct TransversePolarization <:Polarizationend
to distinguish between the commonly used transversely polarized fields (circular, elliptical, &c) from the truly arbitrarily polarized fields, i.e. those with a polarization component along longitudinal direction.
