Great, now it just happened to us too, out of nowhere! It's been working for years, then suddenly the map is greyed out like that on desktop browser, but surprisingly still works on mobile. This is on a live site (FindaSpring.com) with regular visitors, so scrambling to fix it asap. Did something change on Google's side? This issue hasn't been talked about for almost a year, and gmap3 hasn't been updated in over 3 years, so I'm hoping someone might have a clue to resolve this major break. Might be something with the API key domain security, but it's been good all this time...
Can anyone else with the problem confirm that in Inspect console - Network tab, the last line of resources to load is https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js/AuthenticationService.Authenticate?.. with nulls in the results? Also does it work on your mobile browser but not desktop? Trying to get to the bottom of this..

I see a similar issue however where the map appears to be greyed out it is actually zoomed in to maximum. The result is the same on mobile.

Zooming out reveals the actual map as expected and no errors are logged in the console.

Code is identical to a number of other websites that work as expected, the only difference is the Google API key.

Update - on refreshing the browser the map tiles are visible at the correct zoom level for a fraction of a second before the grey appears over them. Still unsure of the cause.
