Adjust phrasing of install instructions? #10
Comments
From the one-line description of the plugin:
There are two parts: reopen closed windows, and optionally restore windows between sessions. The Usage section of the readme has more details. Reopening closed windows is available once the plugin is enabled (and after restarting gedit). As restoring windows between sessions changes the (default) behaviour of the program, I think it is better to have the user opt into it rather than to have it enabled by default. |
I don't know anything about having multiple copies of gedit open - when I
open gedit it opens, and if I go to open gedit again it just brings the
existing gedit instance to the front.
With regard to the the preferences preference - considering that 'restore
tabs' is the one and only option available in the plugin preferences, and
that people are specifically installing the plugin in order to restore tabs
on open I disagree that there should be a secondary manual 'opt-in', but it
is of course entirely up to you. Should you opt to maintain the existing
'non-checked' default then I would ask that you rephrase the install
instructions to explicitly state that the `Preferences/Plugins/<select
plugin>/Preferences/check-the-box` path must be taken in order for the
plugin to restore tabs on startup.

Is it not possible to have the secondary preference (restore windows)
checked by default?

Hi! Thanks for your plugin.
Either the install instructions are a little ambiguous or I'm an idiot (and the latter could well be the case) - as you have to enable the plugin in Preferences and then select Preferences again on the plugin to actually enable it!
Is it not possible to have the secondary preference (restore windows) checked by default?
Anyways, while it is of course entirely up to you, this is how I would suggest you phrase the
README.md
instructions:source code (zip)
file is the one as the plugin is not a compiled binary),~/.local/share/gedit
and create a folder calledplugins
if one does not already exist,ex-mortis
folder and theex-mortis.plugin
file into your gedit plugins folder:Ex-Mortis
entry..Ex-Mortis
plugin selected click the[Preferences]
button at the bottom of the Plugins window and check theRestore windows between sessions
checkbox. No worries if you don't like the re-phrasing - just thought I'd try to be useful :)
