Yes, this is how I'm currently doing it (committed to branch develop).

  • apply single-type segmentations

Merge this into semantic segmentation panel?

No. This logic will be removed, instead a button will be added to "merge all instances". When clicked, all instances of the currently selected segmentation will be merged to one single label.
