@markpatton wrote up a document earlier this fall outlining some of the challenges that exist in discovering associated sets:
... Web Annotation does not solve the problem of finding associated resources. Suppose each source of Web Annotations ... can return an AnnotationCollection targeting a resource. Then what we need is searchable index that lets us find each AnnotationCollection targeting a specified resource.
...
If other search criteria are needed, they could also be added. These simple documents could be indexed easily by something like Elasticsearch.
I think this is similar to a citation service that @jtauber has put some thought into as it relates to CTS urns:
This service:
receives notifications of resources (reviews, commentaries, etc) that cite resources (ancient texts) that have a CTS URN
provides an API to query these citations
can likely be based on existing annotation standards
I think there are similarities between what @markpatton suggested using ElasticSearch and what @jtauber has outlined above.
If, for example, we had the ability to search the discovery service by a IIIF canvas URL, we could return the URN within HMT for the Venetus A folio corresponding to that canvas, as well as the WAs covering folio 12r, for example.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
