What does duty cycle do?

I have a heatpump and uses VT to adjust its integrated thermostat as i have external sensors, and in the setup this has a value, does it have any function or puprpose in a scenario as mine?

cycle are useful to calculate self-regulation, safety mode and overpowering state.
