Low priority to be sure, but wanted to share two related concepts:

  1. It would be great to have a way on the homepage (or via other page), to filter the events you saw. There are obviously lots of ways to do this. But having a way to select only certain tags, certain dates, certain locations, etc. Would make it a much more useful discovery tool. As it stands right now, you go to the homepage and you only see a pile of events happening this coming weekend, and many of those are in drastically different fields. I'd rather not see events about dentistry, if I'm trying to find tech conferences. etc.

  2. Related perhaps, is that it could be good if the homepage wasn't just by default a list of 'all events happening next by date entered'. But applied some algorithm/logic to determine the best things to show. For example:

  • Not showing events that don't have an icon
  • Deprioritizing (or removing) events without locations, talk schedules, etc.
  • Prioritizing events with more people marking themselves as attending.
  • When logged in, showing events that you are attending at top.

etc. I think it would give a much nicer homepage for joind.in, with not that much effort, if something like this was put in, so the homepage was full of complete & active events only.
